Malcolm H Brown

My Dad taught me to use a camera back in the early 60’s. He used a Baldax Rangefinder camera, and automatic it wasn’t. He taught me all about aperture and shutter speed, film speed, using flash - it was all bulbs in those days - and developing and printing in monochrome.

Ever since then I’ve loved taking photos, and looking at other people’s work.

A really good image can be breathtaking. It can trigger a whole range of responses - amazement, wonder, shock, anger, calm reflection, excitement, ... The list goes on.

What gives a picture those qualities? I wish I knew.

When I retired recently from teaching, I decided to use some of my new-found time  to try to produce better photographs. I bought a digital SLR and a few lenses and set about it.

I may never get as far as I would like, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy the journey.

If others can find enjoyment from some of the images on these pages, I’ll be more than happy.
